GTA 1: quick answer and scope

GTA 1 cheats are entered as special names before play. This guide collects documented built-in entries, explains activation and separates edition limits. Choose your platform before copying a code; GTA games do not all share one input method.

How to enter the codes

Open character or name selection before starting: the game-specific method appears below. Enter the word belonging to your platform, confirm and check its effect during play. When a prerequisite activation is required, notably GOURANGA for GTA 2 on PC, complete that step before entering the desired code.

Useful cheats: what each effect changes

On PC, HATEMACHINE and SUCKMYROCKET are special names entered before play. The reference specifies Delete to rename the character at selection. These are neither GTA V console commands nor PlayStation sequences. Check spelling and the complete effect, because one name can bundle weapons, lives and other changes.

The first GTA uses special names at character selection; the PC reference specifies Delete to change the name. Tables separate the computer original, PlayStation and the Game Boy Color adaptation. HATEMACHINE and SUCKMYROCKET are PC entries, while PlayStation words belong to a separate list. Debug mode has additional keys, without mixing saved-game passwords or external modifications into this catalogue. Game Boy Color arrived later and remains grouped under the original 1997 game.

Open your platform’s group. Each row pairs an effect with its input; counts describe rows rather than unique effects. Code words and button sequences remain untranslated.

Editions, limits and common mistakes

Tables distinguish computer, PlayStation and Game Boy Color. The later handheld adaptation retains its own repertoire rather than inheriting PC names. This article documents native codes and their limits, without treating progress passwords, external debug tools or altered files as supposedly universal official codes.

Saving, undoing effects and continuing without cheats

Keep a separate save before experimenting. Re-entering a code does not reverse every effect, and editions can behave differently. An earlier save is the clearest route back to a previous state; check mission or achievement restrictions for your edition afterwards. Tables come from checked documentation, without claiming hands-on testing of every sequence on every machine.
