Which consoles are listed for GTA VI

GTA VI is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation explicitly states that it is not playable on PlayStation 4, while Rockstar’s platform list does not include Xbox One. Checked on November 2, 2026, this means you should not buy a copy expecting a native installation on either older console. The announced release is November 19, 2026; a preorder does not provide playable access today.

PS4 Pro and Xbox One X remain older-generation consoles

The names can mislead: Xbox One X is not Xbox Series X, and Xbox One S is not Series S. Similarly, PS4 Pro remains part of the PS4 family rather than becoming a PS5 through its hardware upgrades. Read the console’s full name and the purchase platform instead of relying on the letter X, S or the word Pro.

Native compatibility: distinguishing the models

What PS4 can do with PS5 Remote Play

Sony documents a general feature for controlling a PS5 from a PS4. The PS5 runs the game; the PS4 receives video and sends controller input. That does not install a PS4 version of GTA VI, replace the PS5 or remove the need to own the game and meet its access conditions. GTA VI’s listing marks Remote Play support, but this explanation is not our own final-version test.

Preparing the PS4-to-PS5 connection

Sony’s guide says to update both consoles and use the same PlayStation account. On PS5, enable Remote Play under Settings, System. Turn it on or leave it in rest mode; network wake requires the relevant internet-connection and network-power settings. On the PS4 home screen, open PS5 Remote Play and choose Find Your PS5. These are service setup steps, not instructions for downloading GTA VI onto PS4.

Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download, or 15 Mbps for best performance. Those are general Remote Play recommendations, not GTA VI system requirements or a latency guarantee. The local network and connection conditions also affect the experience.

Why cloud streaming does not confirm an Xbox One version

Recommending cloud play would require checking GTA VI in the service catalogue, region and applicable access terms. A device streaming other games does not establish that it can stream this one. The checked sources do not support promising GTA VI on Xbox One through a subscription or an upgrade that converts another GTA game into GTA VI.

What to check before buying

Identify your console, open its official store listing and check platform, edition and account region. Compare any offer claiming PS4 or Xbox One support with Rockstar before paying. For streaming, distinguish the console running the game from the screen receiving it. These official GTA VI images provide context rather than showing a purported older-generation edition.
