The official answer: a single-player campaign
GTA VI’s PlayStation listing specifies one player and its FAQ describes a single-player experience. Rockstar also presents Jason and Lucia’s adventure as a single-player game. That is the basis for purchase planning as of November 2, 2026: the checked sources announce neither a two-person cooperative campaign nor split-screen.
Two protagonists do not mean two players
In IGN’s described demonstration, control can switch between protagonists while the companion is handled by the game. Lucia driving while Jason shoots demonstrates cooperation within the scene, rather than a second connected account. Our character-switching guide covers narrative restrictions; this article answers the different question of how many people control the campaign simultaneously.

The modes worth distinguishing
A companion, a second controller and an online session are different things. This comparison avoids importing another game’s features or buying an accessory for an unannounced mode.
| Concept | What it involves | GTA VI status |
|---|---|---|
| Solo campaign | One person controls the session. | Described by official sources. |
| Local co-op | Two people play on one console. | Not announced in the checked listings. |
| Split-screen | Simultaneous views for multiple players. | No checked official confirmation. |
Why online connectivity does not establish multiplayer
A store can mention downloads, accounts, services or purchases without announcing a multiplayer campaign. Offline capability likewise does not specify a future GTA Online. These are access and feature labels, rather than mode announcements. We therefore neither infer co-op from internet requirements nor make permanent claims about future products: this guide covers the announced game.

Remote Play and passing the controller do not add a mode
Displaying a console on another device does not create a second player view. Taking turns with a controller is sharing a session, rather than confirmation of a campaign built for two. Our mobile guide explains streaming separately. We provide no instructions for enabling a co-op menu absent from the checked information.
What announcement would change this answer
A publisher announcement should identify the mode, player count and platforms. For online play, crossplay, invitations, accounts and service access would require separate checks. A two-character video or wishlist does not establish those requirements, and features from GTA Online or another game’s mod cannot be transferred to GTA VI.
Quick questions before planning a session
Should you buy expecting a two-controller campaign? The checked listings do not support that expectation. Is switching Jason and Lucia co-op? It is alternating control in a solo experience. Do these images demonstrate two human players? No: official character and scene screenshots do not establish that. This guide retains the sources’ scope rather than claiming a final-copy test.
