Why this returns to the news on November 1
MarketWatch updated its coverage of fans planning time for GTA VI’s launch today at 11:35 a.m. New York time. The article was originally published October 31. FansGTA checked the figures against BambooHR’s original October 22 report: today brings updated coverage, rather than a newly published study or a new November 1 measurement.
Two figures answering different questions
BambooHR separately examines platform leave requests and a US survey. The 13% increase concerns a request rate; 18% expresses a stated intention. These figures cannot be added or treated as the same group.
| Measure | What the source records |
|---|---|
| November 19 requests | Rate 13% above the equivalent third Thursday of November in 2024 and 2025. |
| Intention to take the day off | 18% of respondents in a survey of 1,530 full-time US employees. |
| Request dataset | Aggregated data covering more than 3.4 million active US employees across 2024–2026. |
Requests and intentions are not observed absences
Launch day has not happened yet. A request may be pending or change, and a survey answer does not prove that someone will ultimately miss work. These are therefore neither recorded launch-day absences nor a count of people who will have bought the game.
The methodology dates the platform snapshot to October 19 and the survey to October 9–20. These are earlier snapshots, not live counters. The source sets out its scope so readers can check the origin of each percentage.
A 13% increase is not thirteen percentage points
A relative increase differs from a percentage-point change. As a purely mathematical example, a hypothetical rate of 10 growing by 13% becomes 11.3, not 23. Those are not the study’s actual rates; the example prevents reading the headline as meaning 13% of all US workers requested leave.
A calendar coincidence alone does not establish GTA VI as the reason for every request. The report offers a signal of anticipation, not a worldwide productivity-loss figure, a FansGTA economic-cost calculation or a sales forecast.
The official date remains November 19
Rockstar’s site checked November 1 continues to list November 19, 2026 for GTA VI on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The workplace report announces no date change, early access or new platform. Planning playtime requires separating release date, preload availability and your store’s unlock time.
What interest signal it provides, and its limits
Recent financial-media coverage and identified leave-request data show the conversation extending beyond gameplay previews. That is an editorial reading of anticipation, not a search ranking or a FansGTA reader survey. The cover is an authentic Rockstar-credited Vice City promotional screenshot; it neither depicts real employees nor proves the figures.
